Malawi: Two Men Arrested For Selling Medical Drugs Illegally.

Karonga Police are keeping in custody two men identified as Anold Mwaulambo, 28 years and Minala Mwamlima, 25 years for being found selling medical drugs in their shops without licenses which is contrary to section 35 (1) of Pharmacy, Medicine and Poison Act.

News Watch Reviews understands that Police conducted a two-days operation after suspecting illegal businesses taking place in some places within the district.

“It was very unfortunate to find Mwaulambo and Mwamlima selling medical drugs in their shops without any license which made police to arrest them without any delay as this is against the law”, said Karonga Police deputy Publist George Mulewa.

Mulewa said among the drugs recovered from Mwaulambo and Mwamlima are bottles full of Paracetamol, Indomethacin capsules, bottles of Trimoxazole tablets, Amoxilin and Diclofenac tablets.

Anold Mwaulambo who comes from Mwaulambo village under Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga district was arrested on October 4, 2017 while Minala Mwamlima was arrested on October 5, 2017 and he hails from Mwakasoko village in the area of Traditional Authority Mwakaboko in Karonga district.

The two will appear in court soon to answer charges levelled against them.

Eight People Die In A Fatal Road Accident In Malawi.

Eight people have lost lives after being involved in road accident which occurred on October 8, 2017 at around 11:30hours  in Karonga district which is in the northern region of Malawi.

Confirming this fatal road accident, Karonga deputy police spokesperson Constable George Mulewa said among the eight who died, only four have been identified.

He identified the four deceased people as Labson Silumbu, 49 years from Chendo village under Traditional Authoritty Mwaulambia in Chitipa district, John Mdula ,40 years from Chivundiko village in the area of Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga district, Sonia Tchongwe, 41 years from Mwangamira village under Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga district and Enelesi Gama.

He said the other four deceased people are yet to be identified.

Mulewa said on the material day a Toyota Hiace minibus with registration number CP 9379 carried Seventeen passengers on board and was being driven by Mavuto Khonje, 33 years from Waberewa village under  Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba district was coming from Mzuzu enroute to Karonga.

“Upon reaching Hara area within Mzuzu-Karonga M1 road the rear nearside tyre got burst.This led to the driver to lose control as the vehicle was over speeding”, said Mulewa.

He added, “due to the impact, three passengers died on spot while five died on their way to the hospital. Out of eight people who died, four are men and the other four are women.”

Postmortem revealed that they died due to severe head and internal body injuries.

Mulewa concluded that six passengers including the driver sustained serious injuries while the other three have minor injuries and are receiving medical treatment at Karonga District Hospital.

Meanwhile Police in the district is advising all road users to be responsible enough and observant to road signs and regulations in order to prevent accidents of similar nature.
