President John Magufuli Tells Burundian Refugees To Return Home

The President of the Republic of Tanzania, Dr John Chapombe Magufuli has ordered all refugees residing in Tanzania to freely pack their belongings and head back home.

This order comes after he met with his counter-part Burundi President, Pierre Nkurunziza who assured him that his country has stabilised and all Burundians outside the country should return home and help to rebuild the nation.

President Nkurunziza was in Ngara district on a one day working tour and was welcomed by President John Magufuli who later agreed on the repatriation of the refugees.

According to media reports from the East African country, says that President John Magufuli has since suspended temporarily the registration and naturalisation of Burundian refugees so that they can start their preparations of going back to Burundi.

“It’s not that I am expelling Burundian refugees but  I am just advising them to voluntarily return home as I have been assured by  my counter-part that the country is stable.”, said Magufuli.

Dr Magufuli directed the Home Affairs Ministry to stop issuing citizenships to Burundian refugees, agreeing with his Burundian counterpart Pierre Nkurunziza that the previously troubled East African nation is politically stable.

He further urged Burundians to remain in their country to help in building a better nation.

Home Affairs Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said here were about 247,000 Burundians in refugee camps in Kigoma region, noting that between 2006 and 2007, some 160,000 Burundians were granted citizenship and the number has since increased to 200,000.

Dr John Chapombe Magufuli reassured Burundi they will maintain their friendship and support to speed up development for the mutual benefits of all citizens of the two neighbouring countries.

Burundi was recently rocked with violence which led to many people run  away and seek shelter in the neighbouring countries.

Eight Men Sentenced To 6 Years For Killing An Albino Girl.

The Lilongwe Magistrate court sitting on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, ordered eight people from Lilongwe to be locked up in Maula prison for 6 years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit a felony inorder to murder.

The court heard that the eight men took part in the killing of a 21 year old albino, Enelesi Nkhata which took place in Madisi, Dowa in April 2016.

The court further heard that it was Gerald Phiri who was already slapped with a 17 year jail term by the Mponela Magistrates court who agreed with his friend, Medison Madzialenga to engage in selling bones of a person living with albinism upon hearing rumours that they were sold at a higher price.

The discussion propelled Phiri to go to Dedza to fetch his niece Enelesi Nkhata, 21 who was living with her grandmother since her parents divorced some years back.

After coming from Dedza, Gerald Phiri, an uncle to the girl agreed with the eight suspects from Lilongwe Area 49 to come to Madisi in Dowa where they butchered the girl.

In their mitigation, all the eight suspects blamed satan for their evil act saying they wanted to source capital to venture into business as they were all tired living in the dungeons of poverty. They all pleaded with the court for a lenient sentence saying they have already over-stayed in prison after being remanded in April, 2016.

Mponela police prosecutor, Assistant Superitendent Isaac Kadawayula asked the court to impose a stiff sentence to the eight men saying what they did was very evil and unwelcome in society.

In his determination, Principal Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa concurred with the state and described the suspects behaviour as inhumane and against the prevailing norms of the society. He said people with albinism have a right to life just like any other Malawian.

His honour, Patrick Chirwa sitting as principal Resident Magistrate therefore sentenced the eight men namely: Jezmond Baluwa 40, Stevie Ching’ombe, Isaac Msambalume, Kaluzi Kamangeni, Damison Manyoni 56, Damiano Phiri 33 and McDonald Kanyerere 36, all Lilongwe residents to 6 years in jail.

The offence of Conspiracy to commit a felony attracts a maximum sentence of 7 years according to section 404 of the penal code.

Shepherd Bushiri Refutes DHET Reports That He Runs A Bogus University In South Africa.

Despite the matter still being under investigation, the president and founder of Shepherd Bushiri International (SBI), Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has quickly reacted and refuted reports which have been circulating that he runs a bogus University in Pretoria, South Africa.

The self proclaimed Prophet has labelled the rumours as false and misleading regarding the Shepherd Bushiri International University.

“Contrary to these false allegations, the SB International University is not operating illegally. In fact, the university is yet to be officially launched in South Africa once registration has been finalized later this year. However, my church has hired the Tshwane Institute of Technology to train and equip some of our pastors on a short course in Theology as we wait for SBI to finalise its credentials”, read part of his statement.

Bushiri further said as a higher education institution that will offer legitimate academic qualifications, the university is following all the necessary procedures required by the law in South Africa to obtain registration.

It was aired on SABC that the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is investigating owners of a suspected bogus international university located at the Old Mutual Building, between Francis Baard and Steve Biko Streets in Arcadia, Pretoria.

Dr Shaheeda Essack, Director of Private Higher Education Institutions said that on the allegations that the Shepherd Bushiri International University is operating as part of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), an act of that nature would be fraudulent and illegal.

According to DHET, preliminary investigations have established that the institution is operating under the name of Shepherd Bushiri University and its not registered with the Department as either a private college or private higher education institution as required by law.

They said neither is the institution accredited to offer courses that are accredited with the relevant quality assurer – Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

The Department of Education in South Africa treats this case very seriously and has approached the law enforcement authorities to assist with further investigations. The Department has since sent a warning letter to the institution’s operators who runs it under the name of Shepherd Bushiri instructing them to cease any illegal operations with immediate effect.

The Department has since urged prospective students to remain vigilant and to verify the accreditation credentials of institutions with the Department before deciding to enrol.

Azania And Now Sidik Mia ? Is This A Stroke Of Marketing Genius Solitude Or Freedom Plain Stupid?

For me, freedom of time and location when it comes to making money online and finally building my own business from home entails more than the human capacity to act spontaneously and creatively in public.

The degree of poverty I have been exposed to gave me an opportunity to realize that the capacity to think and to judge in private, where solitude empowers the individual to contemplate his or her actions and develop her conscience was needed in order to escape the cacophony of the crowd – to finally hear herself think.

I have few friends who can stand me, I get bored quickly and am super critical of my time so If I don’t send you a Xmas card, it’s not that I don’t appreciate your company, chit chats are just not my thing!

You see my trouble is not necessarily liking the other person, It’s what I see in a person who does not know that silent intercourse (in this case I do not mean literally, rather in which we take time to examine what we say and what we do) will not mind contradicting himself, and this means he will never be either able or willing to account for what he says or does; nor will he mind committing any crime, since he can count on its being forgotten the next moment.

This is why I have had an issue with recent politics and the state of affairs in developing countries.

I mean, are people in developing countries so stupid that they have shunned Socratic self-reflection? Because if your answer is no, then I want you to tell me if voting for Buhari has any positive impact on Nigerian people?

How about Jacob Zuma who in my opinion I think has failed to return home to himself, to a state of solitude and really reflect on what a typical 20 years old South African wants out of a government in power.
Is the subject of changing South African National Name to Azania really worth the salt?
According to Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, who wants to lobby the ANC to begin a discussion on finding a suitable name for South Africa, believes that Mandela’s born free generation voters would prefer changing country names than job creation.

Mthethwa, who is also an ANC NEC member was replying to calls made by a Molweni resident to discuss the issue of the country’s name during the party’s national policy conference at the end of the month.

Surprisingly Mthethwa told party supporters at a cadre meeting on Sunday that South Africa was not the name of the country, but just “a geographical description of where we are”.

And if you travel south east to Malawi, you will find political prostitution at a grand scheme.

Unlike Bhekisisa Khanyeza in South Africa, who said it was unacceptable for a free country to continue with a colonial name. Very little is being discussed in Malawi regarding the behavior of party-hopping of Sidik Mia, change golo and many others who skip from one political party to the other in the name of defection.

Does Sidik Mia really have philosophical beliefs behind his political prostitution?

Politicians like these have no place in a modern democracy. They have no moral campus and have literally discarded the vita contemplativa, and thus they have failed to embark upon the essential question-and-answering process that would have allowed them to examine the meaning of things, what and how it really looks from a different perspective.

This alone would have allowed them to distinguish between fact and fiction, truth and falsehood, good and evil.

If you are asking for my opinion about the ruling parties? Don’t vote for DPP and don’t re-elect Sidik Mia into Parliament regardless of which party he defects into.
And here is why…

It is better to suffer wrong than to do wrong,’ As a famous thinker once wrote, ‘because you can remain the friend of the sufferer; who would want to be the friend of and have to live together with a murderer?

Kingdom mentality and a political dynasty is the worst enemy of our weakened democracy. It is stiffening progressive development across Africa and it must be dealt with like murderers.’

Frankly speaking, It is not that unthinking men like Sidik Mia are monsters, rather the sad sleepwalkers of the world who empower and promote them. They would sooner commit political suicide by voting along party lines than face themselves in solitude and vote for fresh Ideologies and forward thinkers.

ANC, on the other hand, is completely out of touch with the entire electorate and here is why…

The majority of South Africa’s voting power today is in the youth vote, and this vote has just about enough knowledge relating to colonialism or cares less about political struggles of the 90s.

If you want to capture this voting block, do not talk about colonialism. The under-20s in South Africa are worried about jobs, Higher Educational costs and how they will fit in the globalized economy, where a 20 something young man or woman in the outskates of Joburg is able to execute million dollar trading deals with another individual in Chennai India or Guangdong in China.

Do you really think this group of voters cares whether the name South Africa means anything in our traditional language or they care more if the government would be proposing for super-high speed internet connections

If ANC wants to have this conversation then it is only good to also realize that the discussion boards have changed from the street on to online platforms like facebook and twitter or Snapchat.

South Africans like others across the globe now live in a hyper-connected world, a world in which we can communicate constantly and instantly over the internet.

If political leaders deliberately choose to ignore or simply bypass the social fora by not carving out spaces for social solitary contemplation, then are at risk of leaving behind an entire next generation.

We now live an entire lifestyle where we check our email hundreds of times per day; we shoot off thousands of text messages per month; we obsessively thumb through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, aching to connect at all hours with close and casual acquaintances alike.
We search for friends of friends, ex-lovers, people we barely know, people we have no business knowing. We crave constant companionship. But above all, it’s our own way of living. Away from all the political noise and political-party-hopping.

Discussions regarding the history and the future of South Africa is very much welcome and of course a good thing to have, but if we lose our capacity for solitude and questioning the arterial motives behind the change to Azania, our ability to be progressive developing country is hampered by futile debate, and then we lose our very ability to think as a proud nation, not a former colonial or whatever.

We risk getting caught up in the crowd. We risk being ‘swept away by what everybody else does and believes in’ – no longer able, in the cage of thoughtless conformity, to distinguish ‘right from wrong, beautiful from ugly’.

Only in Solitude state of mind, one is able to see that who we are is a collection of events or history. An essential aspect of the development of an individual’s consciousness – and conscience – but also a practice that prepares one for participation in social and political life.

Just as much as Kamuzu Banda is a thorn in other people,s memory, and past life. To many, Kamuzu Banda was also a hero and matriarch, so the question is how do we strike a balance?

South African Deputy Police Minister Accuses Foreign Nationals For Hijacking Their Land.

The South African deputy Police Minister Bongani Mkongi has accused foreigners in the rainbow nation that they are hijacking their land while the citizens of the nation are suffering and they have nowhere to go.

Addressing the media at the local police station in the country, he stressed about the high number of crimes committed using unlicensed firearms, hijacked buildings and illegal trade around Hillbrow.

“Almost 80% of people living in Hillbrow are foreign nations. If we don’t debate that, then it means the whole of South Africa could be 80% dominated by foreign nationals and in future South Africa will have a foreign national president”, he said.

He said South Africa is now surrendering their land they fought for to foreigners.

He added, “there is nowhere in the world where foreign nationals dominate a city into 80%. This is not Xenophic, we fought for this country, not only for us but for generations of South Africans to live in harmony in a non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa.”

The Minister said South African authorities should come up with ideas to make sure foreign nationals don’t take land from locals because it is dangerous to let foreign nations to take their land.

“These illegal firearms used for robbery in our city are causing danger to our citizens. South Africans are protesting because of service delivery because we cannot offer them shelter because the land is occupied by foreign nationals. They doing illegal businesses which is a sabotage to our economy.”, he conclued.

Despite the deputy Police Minister publicly saying his words are not xenophobic, some commentators have a different view about his words. They say such kind of words targeting particular individuals have led to violence in South Africa.

This statement by the Minister is the same which was said by King Zwelinthini in 2015 that foreign nationals must pack their bags and leave South Africa. This statement sparked violence in some parts of the country where foreign nationals were dispersed from their homes and some were brutally killed.

A 20 Year Old Man Slapped 12 Years For Defiling A 12 Year Old School Girl.

In a bid to curb the rising number of defiling cases in the northern district of Malawi, Nkhata Bay, the court in Nkhata Bay has sentenced Edwin Dennis Malungo to 12 years imprisonment with hard for defiling a 12 year old girl at Kawalazi in the district.

The court through police prosecutor Sergeant Keston Chiona heard that between January and May 2017, Malungo had been in love affair with the girl and during that period, he slept with her for three times.

“The issue came to light on May 15, 2017 when the girl’s father red handedly caught the two having sex at a nearby bush. Sensing danger, Malungo ran away and the father took her daughter to Mzenga police unit where they reffered her to Kawalazi health center where defilement was confirmed”, said Nkhata Bay police publist Ignatius Esau.

Malungo was arrested and was charged with defilement contrary to section 138 of the penal code and during his first court appearance. However he pleaded not guilty to the charge and in its quest to find the guilt of the accused, the state paraded three witnesses.

On July 12, 2017, Malungo was convicted and during mitigation, he pleaded with the court to show leniency when sentencing him saying he looks after not only his elderly parents but also orphans and if sent to prison, the aforementioned beneficiaries will suffer most.

First Grade Magistrate Anthony Banda when passing sentence noted with concern the rising number of defilement cases in the district and as a measure to put a stop to it, those convicted for the offence should be severely punished.

Edwin Malungo 20, who hails from Mateleka village in the area of Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje district was later slapped with a 12 year jail sentence.

Mixed Reactions Over Lucius Banda’s Live Performance At MCP Major Rally.

Chikwawa will be on fire this Saturday, July 15, 2017 as politician, Sidik Mia will formally announce his joining to the main opposition party, Malawi Congress Party (MCP). Sidik Mia who announced few weeks ago that he will be joining MCP made few whislte blowing campaigns in the district.

During his formal announcement, Malawian music icon and former leader of United Democratic Front (UDF) in Parliament, Lucius Banda will grace the rally in Chikwawa on Saturday with a live performance.

His acceptance to perform at the rally has brought mixed reactions amongst Malawians of which some think that Lucius Banda is about to defect from his current party the United Democratic Front (UDF) and join hands with the main opposition party, Malawi Congress Party to log out the current ruling party the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Some were quoted, “Lucius Banda always presses a wrong button since he his political carreer. I don’t think this is a good move for him to perform at the MCP rally as we all know that its another opposition party in Malawi”.

But some have come into his defence saying that he has the right to perform at any rally as a musician.

“He has the right to do so as a musician. He doesn’t have boundaries. Performing at MCP event doesn’t mean he is joining the party. Let him cheer the audience since he has just been hired”, they  were quoted.

Banda has never been in good terms with his mother party, the UDF, as he has been criticising them for being under the foot of the ruling party, DPP. The party’s president Atupele Muluzi is under DPP’s armpits as one of the cabinet minister in the ruling party.

The President of Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Professor Lazarus Chakwera is expected to address the audience as he will be welcoming the Lower Shire political giant Sidik Mia this Saturday in Chikwawa.

Meanwhile the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has made a civilised decision by postponding all its planned and arranged political activities in the Lower Shire over this weekend just because MCP will be holding a major rally in Ngabu, Chikwawa this Saturday.

Father Sentenced To Six Years Imprisonment For Raping His Biological Daughter

The magistrate court in Nkhata Bay has convicted and sentenced a 60 year old man Joseph Mphande to six years imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty for raping his 22 year old biological daughter.

State prosecutor Sergeant Keston Chiona told the court that in March this year, the girl asked money from his father to start business and in reply, the father told his daughter that for her business to prosper, she needed a certain medication.

“When she quizzed as to what type of medication was needed, the father told her daughter that they needed to sleep together to which the daughter refused. On the nights of 3rd April and 28th May 2017, the father forcibly slept with her daughter and this prompted her to report him to the village headman who later took the victim to Usisya police unit”, said Nkhata Bay police publist Ignatius Esau.

“The victim was reffered to Usisya health centre where results revealed that she was really raped. Mphande was arrested and was charged with rape contrary to section 157 (1) of the penal code”, concluded Esau.

In Court, Mphande pleaded not guilty to the charge and three witnesses were paraded to prove his guilt and on July 12, 2017, he was found guilty. In mitigation, he brought the court into laughter when he said he is an orphan.

Passing sentence, First Grade Magistrate Anthony Banda decried Mphande’s behaviour saying as a father he was supposed to be providing protection to his daughter not to sleep with her. He later slapped him with a six year jail term taking into consideration of his age.

Joseph Mphande and the victim both comes from Kaulanda village in the area of Traditional Authority M’bwana in Nkhata Bay distirict.

Man Fined MK480,000 For Driving Unroad Worthy Vehicle Without A Drivers Licence

Tough traffic laws have started being imposed on road users as the Senior Resident Magistrate’s court sitting in Lilongwe on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a 30 year old man, Julius Pofera to K480,000 fine or in default serve 21 months in jail for driving unroad worthy vehicle without a drivers licence.

The court heard that the convict of Area 36 depot was driving a minibus registration number KU 4203 when he was stopped by a traffic officer responsible for Lilongwe Urban, Superintendent George Botso.

Police Prosecutor Inspector Bartholomew Adzaonenji told the court that the traffic officer found that the minibus had exceeded its capacity as it had 20 passengers.

“When asked to produce his drivers licence, the accused failed to do so, prompting the officer to thoroughly check the vehicle for road service permit, insurance and certificate of fitness of which none were found on the vehicle,” said Adzaonenji.

The accused, however was subsequently charged with four counts; driving a motor vehicle without a drivers licence, driving a vehicle without an insurance and driving a vehicle without a certificate of fitness.

In his submission, Adzaonenji asked the court to hand out a stiffer sentence as the accused was incompetent hence a danger to the people he was carrying.

Pofera, in his mitigation pleaded for leniency as he was a first offender and had family obligations.

Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Shyleen Yona concurred with the state arguing that the accused deserved harsh penalty as a measure to curb increasing road accidents and deter other would-be offenders.

Yona went on slapping the convict with a K480,000 fine or a 21month jail term in default.

Pofera hails from Zuze Village in the area of Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District.

Foreign National Arrested For Attempting To Obtain Malawian Citizenship ID.

A Mozambican national failed to trick the Police as he has been arrested for attempting to register as a Malawian national in the on going national registration exercise.

Dedza Police relations officer Inspector Edward Kabango identified the suspect as Patrick Machaka aged 32.

According to the Publist, police got a tip off through Detective Dastan Chiswe that the suspect is not a Malawian although he managed to produce two Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) identity cards for 2008 and 2013.

“Patrick Machaka went to Umbwi registration centre and lied that he hails from Kapalamula village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in the district. After further interogations it was discovered that he is a foreign national who wanted to acquire the citizenship illegally”, said Kabango.

The suspect has since been charged with furnishing false information for the purpose of obtaining registration which is contrary to section 43 of the National Registration Bureau and has a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Meanwhile the police is advising chiefs to refrain from registering foreigners because it is an offence
